In today’s accelerated culture to-do lists, getting more done, pursuing bigger ROIs, and achieving peak performance are the themes of the day. It seems frivolous to dedicated time to thinking about what we really want to change or how we can really realign with more joy, love, and fulfillment on a daily basis. It’s not always easy to step back and take a look at what is really working.

If you own a Holistic business or just provide Holistic, Spiritual, or Metaphysical services, you need more than a business background. In these niche markets you need so much more. Holistic customers are searching for and almost demanding a product or service that goes deeper and has more meaning than any other type of business.

So you may have already known that peacocks are really the male version of peafowls. The females are called peahens and their (less-striking) brown feathers are designed to keep them camouflaged while caring for their young. You may also have known that males display their elaborate tails – called trains – as a form of courtship. Hey girl, hey! ;) But did you know that peacocks were also masters of technology AND marketing? It’s true!

The hardest part of running your own small business is when a customer presents you, the sole proprietor, with a problem to resolve and a challenging attitude. They’re dissatisfied maybe. They’re frustrated with how something didn’t turn out as anticipated. Hard to know how to respond to that energetically, unsettling even. But got to you must to serve your customer’s needs.

Your product should be something that is in between something you love to make and something that everyone wants. If you’re creating something no one will buy but you, well then you see what’s going to happen… So you need to do your research. Maybe you need to narrow down your market and target a certain group. Where is this group of lovely people hanging out? What do they want?

Women are bombarded with so many messages every day about who to be, how to look and what their lives should look like. In the face of this culture, unbeknownst to most of us, the parts of us that we don't like, that don't match up, that feel unlovable, that aren't "ideal" or "put together" go into hiding, in the shadows.

HOW TO USE PINTEREST TO BUILD YOUR BRAND
How to Use Pinterest to Build Your Brand
So many times when I’m on the phone with my clients, talking with friends or making new ones, the concept of desire comes up. It’s so easy to know what you want from an analytical standpoint. That is really valuable.
But more than that, I want to know how do you want to feel and will you be ready for it when it shows up?
The perfect way I’ve found, especially if you’re a visual person like me, is to use photos to capture the feeling of what you want to create. It gives you a visual to focus on and helps you tap into those feelings that anchor you to take action.
I know we’ve all heard about vision boards and manifesting, this is slightly different. I think movies like The Secret only got it half right. Vision boards are only half of the process, the other piece is connecting with the reason you want to have or experience ‘the thing’ and then look at what action you’ll need to take to move you closer to it.
The real purpose of the vision board is to allow you to tap into these desires and give you a jumpstart on what you’re ‘calling in’. Make sense?
You can’t possibly know where you’re headed without a bigger why - a passion, a gut feeling, a deeper purpose, a dream – and that all happens when you tap into the deeper facets of creating a lifestyle that fits your unique dreams. You’re not a one-size-fits-all barbie and your dreams shouldn’t feel fake like that either.
To get you started, one of my absolute favorite tools to begin feeling into your vision is using Pinterest. Photos enhance our feelings so the more aligned they are with what you want to create the better you’ll feel and the more you’ll attract. But don’t forget to take that aligned action to ensure you are headed in the right direction!
Remember, like anything this is a process so take it one step at a time and be gentle with yourself. Explore and create so you can expand in the ways you are meant to. And above all else have fun with the process! Once your boards are created make sure to print them out, add them as your desktop background or showcase them somewhere you’ll get to see them and feel the benefits often and feel inspired to take those baby steps toward your dreams.
Your dreams are there for a reason. Listen to them. Cultivate them. Shine love and positivity on them and watch ‘em grow.

People Ruining Your Business
THE 5 PEOPLE RUINING
Article by Marlo Wright
Magazine: Issue #14
We talk so often about the type of people you should be looking for to help nurture, grow, and expand your company. These are key players who’s advice is golden, and time is valuable. Often times they are the people you wish you could pay — because often they won’t accept it or you feel like what they are charging you is less than you should be paying! Valuable, positive, and encouraging people are the right people to attract to your business.
However, sometimes, we get a good word, piece of advice, honest critique, or powerful push to move out and it’s quickly taken from you.
Negative Nancy is what I call them. Maybe you’ve referred to them as Debbie Downer. You know the person that will suck all the life out of a room? That will throw a wet blanket on your emerging bon fire? Well, it’s time to do some house cleaning and distance yourself from or move away from these five types of people (whether they are family or not!):
1| Not Accomplished
The person who knows everything but has accomplished nothing! The person who’s been there, done it, and it never worked for them. Never able to have a successful business of any kind, but has all the advice in the world for how to make your business grow and become successful.
2| Poor Man Mentality
You know the person who complains about the expense of everything, and is always claiming broke!
3| The Criticizer
Where there is nothing wrong with some one critiquing your business, because we always need an outsiders p.o.v., I often think the best criticism comes with solution. So, if they are quick to offer their two cents with out the possible remedy to the problem, they could just be natural complainers, whiners, and people who only see the bad in EVERYTHING — including your gutsiness to step out and make something happen!
4| The Partaker
There was an old nursery school story about the hen who asked everyone to help her make bread. Everyone was too busy to help her stir, pour, sift, etc. Yet, when it came time to partake in the fruits of her labor (the end product of amazing baked bread), everyone who declined to help, had their hand out for a piece!
5| The Slick Talker
Ever had an encounter with someone who promises you they can give you the moon? You pay their fee with high hopes, because you clearly laid out your expectations, which they signed off on, and yet they still failed to deliver!
All in all, we need the right people attracted to our business. How do you attract the right people? Glad you asked… look for the next installment next month!

HOW TO USE CANDLE MAGICK TO IMPROVE YOUR BUSINESS
Use Candle Magick to Improve Your Business
As practitioners especially in the Holistic realm do we know for sure that random coincidences and well thought plans pull all of our efforts together in a positive manner to bring about success? We educate ourselves, we plan, we brainstorm, and carefully drive towards a calculated effort that produces events that we are all looking for. This is our dream, our life, it is what we do every day as entrepreneurs. I have written about meditation, positive energy, astral events and many other methods that can benefit the entrepreneur so now let’s add one more tool to our arsenal. Quite frankly we can use a break from our daily routine and embrace new methods. Who wants to make some Magick?
Magick, maybe a different spelling of the word as most see it but yet spelled correctly by many whom are spiritually inclined.
Definition: (just a couple}
The art of producing a desired effect or result through the use of incantation or various other techniques that presumably assure human control of supernatural agencies or the forces of nature.
Any extraordinary or mystical influence, charm, power, etc.
Who does not want their desired effect or any extraordinary influence providing extra power into their business? Let’s be honest and take help from wherever we can.
Magick can be no different than focused intent, prayer or meditation in it’s use. There is only a need to focus on one event in your business and create as a visualization upon how you wish the outcome to be. You may also light a candle while focusing. With this type of Magick you are directly asking and aligning with the universe to provide you with what you are in need of at that moment in time. Please remember to not demand or place a timeframe on whatever it is you need, as the universe will provide you with it when it is right for you.
Candle Magick: Yes I’m guilty of burning candles, who doesn’t love a candle lit room, my excuse is I’m a Reiki Master! Why not light candles in your office space with intent of peace and success. In Magick the following colors and their intended uses are listed for the entrepreneur as there are many other uses for these colors.
RED: Fire, strength, courage, driving force, survival, career goals, and fast action. It is the color that represents the South quarter element of fire.
ORANGE: Fortune, prosperity, plenty, success, business, career, ambition Justice, legal matters, selling, taking action.
YELLOW: Air, creativity, concentration, confidence, insight, knowledge of healing, memory retention, breaking mental blocks, selling yourself. It is the color that represents the East quarter element of air.
GREEN: Earth, employment, ambition, personal goals, prosperity, success, finances. It is the color that represents the North quarter element of earth.
COPPER: Passion, money goals, professional growth, fertility in business, career. (My favorite)
BLUE: Reassurance, guidance, inspiration, wisdom, creativity sincerity. It is the color that represents the West quarter element of water.
So next time you are setting up your office or space for peace and creativity do it with a Magickal intent in regards to your business needs.

3 STEPS TO BUILDING A BUSINESS ONLINE...
CREATE, COLLABORATE AND THRIVE!
I know what you’re thinking right now. I don’t prefer to collaborate on projects in business simply because it never works out or, I just prefer to work alone. News flash! Was Apple managed by Steve jobs only? Was he the only employee at Apple? It takes a team to build an empire and that traditional way of thinking will create a road block in the middle of your plans real fast. If you have horror stories with collaborating, it’s only because you chose the wrong person or people to collaborate with. Have you ever selected a restaurant to try out and walk away disappointed? Did you try another restaurant or did you call it a quits and decided never to visit any other restaurants ever in life?
We are students first in this world of learning and exploring. We are constantly learning about what we stand for in our businesses and in life period. I promote and encourage ladies to collaborate. It’s a beautiful opportunity to create magic. Here’s a perfect example: If I am great at graphic design and you are great at sales and we both are in the same industry, why not work together? No one wants to admit it but I believe a few egos are getting in the way of creating this magic? What are your thoughts?
BE BRAVE – BE BOLD – BE COURAGOUS
Let’s just name a few benefits of collaborating shall we?
Personal and Business Development – Not only will you grow as a person but you will learn additional tools and techniques for your business. Two heads are always better than one
Sales and Marketing - Not only are you cheering for a common goal, theme and project, but both of you are working together as a team. Less stress right?
Relationships – Not only are you building your communication skills in business but you are building a strong foundation for future business partnerships.
Ideas and Creation – I’m not sure about you but as a creative spirit, my brain is all over the place so it’s great to have someone who speaks the same language (creativity) Do you know how much you can create with two or more people?
CREATIVITY IS YOUR SUPER POWER
Don’t allow past experiences to get in the way of your success. Build your business and new chapter of your life one step at a time. Create, Collaborate and celebrate your business in true bliss. I’ll be here to cheer you on. Woo Hoo! You Rock!

HOW TO MAKE YOUR BRAND
STAND OUT IN A CROWDED MARKET
Be The #1 Brand In A Crowded Market
It’s a very popular topic and for some of you a very big worry. You think you have a great idea for a business but then you look around to discover “so many others are selling or teaching the very same thing”. So how will you survive, let alone be the huge success you dream of becoming? If you look around carefully and closely at what you are perceiving to be your competition I promise:
“You will not find anyone doing exactly what you do – exactly how you do it!”
And that’s exactly how it should be.
Think about this: when you decide to buy a book on any given topic whether you are trotting off to the local book store or shopping online, as soon as you start searching you discover there are oodles of books to choose from.
:: Are they all written by the same author?
:: Do they all have the same title? Typeface? Pictures? # of pages?
:: Are they all written in the same style?
:: Are they all bound the same?
:: Do they all cover exactly the same details from the same perspective or
:: Out of the entire selection is there one book that stands out and appeals to you above all others?
Let’s say you need a new pair of black heels so you head out to the mall.
:: Do all the stores carry the same styles?
:: Are all the black pumps the same price point?
:: Does one store more have a more comfortable shopping vibe?
:: Is the customer service the same in all the stores?
:: Is one store more stylish than the others?
:: Is one store just calling your name?
:: Do you find that one special pair that you just can’t live without?
I could go on pointing out the ways all these businesses are different but I think you are starting to see that even though the fundamental topic of the competition may be the same, that the “packaging and presentation” of the message or product is different every time.
As a customer or client yourself, I’m certain you have shopped in stores you have loved and can’t wait to go back to and those you would never set foot in again. You have likely worked with coaches or mentors you could relate to and followed to the letter and at the same time you have refused to work with others because they just didn’t get you or you could relate on some level.
Well it’s the same for you. You are not meant to sell or work with everyone looking for help on your topic. You must create your own Brand Magic that will attract the followers you are looking to work with. (lets get real here – you can’t and don’t want to work with everyone – it’s your business and your rules – be selective!)
You get to choose:
WHAT you want to sell
WHO you want to sell it to
HOW you want to deliver it
YOUR PERSPECTIVE or angle on the topic
PRICING for your products or programs
That’s your Brand Magic! Your Brand Magic will make you the #1 Brand to the fans and stalkers you want as clients!

BAH-BYE DEBBIE DOWNER...
CREATING POSITIVE ENERGY IN YOUR BUSINESS
Creating Positive Energy In Your Business
Everything in life is made of energy and all of this energy needs to flow creatively and freely. When energy is blocked it comes to a standstill and reverts into a negative entity. This entity creates sickness, emotional turmoil, and an overall negative feeling within your being. This energy also exists within your business. A business that is stuck or blocked possesses this negative energy.
I work with energy on a daily basis and never take it for granted. As a Reiki Master/Teacher and a coach for those with Empathic abilities I am conscious of energy at all levels. Energy is a basic building block of our world, both physical and spiritual, and we also need to create a positive energy in our business to allow the creative flow of this energy. This creative flow allows your business to succeed with peace and ease.
Since I own a holistic business and practice these methods of creating such energies, I would like to share some methods that create this energy into your business. None of these being hard by any means, just methods of projecting mindfulness into all aspects of your business.
Your business space
Is this space cluttered and in chaos? Clean it; clear it of all unnecessary clutter, this removes old and or negative energy and raises its vibration. Create a space that is peaceful to your mind and soul, a place you want to be in. Don’t be afraid to Smudge (Sage) your space. Doing this removes all negative energies for the space and new scientific studies have proven that smudging does actually removes impurities from the air in your space. Place bowls of salt or a salt lamp in your space to further remove negative energies. The salt lamps are great for removing negative ions from the space especially near or around electronic devices. Use protective stones and crystals within your space, some good protective stones that repel negative energy are Onyx and Obsidian.
Your mind and body
Take some time for yourself prior to beginning any business activities. I know this sounds like the impossible, but it is necessary in order to create these positive energies.
Use essential oil or scent such as lavender, eucalyptus, rosemary, etc. to calm and relax yourself. Meditate, go outside for some sun, doing any type of physical activities that will help you stay grounded in your body. (e.g. Yoga, Tai Chi, martial art, jogging, boxing, exercise, or some kind of sports you enjoy, etc.), get some fresh air. Surround yourself around plants or trees of high energy and get grounded with them. Drink pure water. (Bless your water with positive energy before drinking it. And remember to thank it for purifying your body as you drink it.) Eat proper balanced nutritious meals and feel your emotions, always feel your emotions.
Only after these practices should you start to conduct your daily business routine. Be mindful of all processes of these practices and then invite them into every process of your business to create a constant positive energy. Do not allow the daily hectic stressors to break down any of this energy you have created and you will succeed peacefully as an entrepreneur.

SETTING UP YOUR HOLISTIC BUSINESS
Entrepreneurship: A Family Affair
Article by Darlene Dunn
Magazine: Issue #34
When my husband and I decided to open our holistic business 9 years ago, we decided we would not go into debt to do it. We took some cash from our household savings (this was later paid back to the household budget) and started our business. We started with a vision and a solid business plan over the years we have modified our business plan to reflect our goals for growth.
Initially, we rented a small room and then as our business grew we were able to rent a larger space. We made several mistakes as we started our business; but we learned from them and grew. Remember, a mistake doesn’t mean failure unless you quit. We were naïve and allowed landlords too much control; these were painful and costly mistakes but we persevered and learned.
In our holistic business we have licenses and insurance fees that are on set schedules. We set up a business saving account so we put money into that account to save for these expenses; this way large chunks of money do not come out of our account monthly. Another big tip we have for any entrepreneur; save EVERY receipt.
It is easier to determine you cannot deduct something than it is to reproduce a missing receipt.
We are very proud that our small business has survived almost a decade now. Running our own business is a family affair. Our 12-year old daughter earns money by helping with data entry and mailings to our clients. I want to encourage everyone that it is possible to be successful as an entrepreneur. I still work full time as a nurse and part time in our business; however, my husband is full-time in our business. Our goal is for both of us to eventually be full-time in our business; however, this is not the season for that, and that is okay.
Decide on your business, make a business plan, and step out in FAITH! You got this!

PR Secrets to Keep Your Brand Relevant
3 PR SECRETS TO KEEP YOUR BRAND RELEVANT
In my 16 years in public relations and marketing, I have worked with over 100 celebrities, including notable Grammy award winning artist from the classical music industry, to the film industry producers and the pop music artists. I noticed there are 3 secrets they use to stay relevant to us. Understanding these secrets can help you shift your own thinking and help you too be “celebrated” for your awesomeness. The biggest difference between you and any celebrity is that more people know them and celebrate them than they do you. Let’s face it; your moment of fame when you sang in grade school or in that play in kindergarten was your premier “celebrity moment”. We’ve all had some kind of taste of “celebrity”. Mastering those things we experienced and learned in those times are the same things celebrities do now. On that note, let’s get to it.
SECRET 1| YOU AMPLIFIED (YOUR BEST SELF)
If you remember that moment in your life you were celebrated, you will probably realize it was because you were being you x 50. When your mother or father told you “practice makes perfect”, they knew what they were talking about. Secret one to being a relevant celebrity: YOU HAVE TO COMMIT TO DOING THE WORK DAILY: Practice being yourself x 50. Celebrities have practiced being themselves or being so exceptional at what they do, they become MASTERS at it. You need to decide to step FULLY into you, the authentic you. Then master it so well that no one can do what you do, the way you do it. So the thought of being like anyone else is a bad idea to being celebrated. Be your best self. From Oprah, Angelina Jolie to Denzel Washington, Suze Orman and Lupita Nyong'o. They are MASTERS at themselves and their craft. It’s a daily commitment. Start practicing your own SELF MASTERY.
SECRET 2| STAY CURRENT AND ENGAGED
You can probably name 5 celebrities that are “has beens”. Do you know why? For so many of them, they stopped staying in front of us or engaging us. If you don’t evolve, let’s face it you will become redundant. There is nothing wrong with sticking to what worked in 1990. But you have to find a way to evolve into current technologies that fit your personality in the new millennia. So if you like old school ways of coaching people and writing on boards and technology seems hard for you, then write on boards but have it recorded and uploaded to YouTube. If you don’t engage the new population the way they understand, you will be left in and with the old population.
My suggestion: sit down and take inventory of how you do things and develop ways to evolve into the new millennia. Either using the Internet (social media), a hybrid of your sense of style, a partnership with someone or a company that does things the new way. Just remember, if you do not engage the influential population, you just may get stuck promoting or marketing to your generation alone. That can be limiting. Think bigger. The celebrity that has mastered this art is BEYONCÉ. She is still herself, but you can see it’s a more evolved version of her with a similar sound to her style of music and fashion. Her fan-base ranges from teens to grown adults. Even grandmas can sing a Beyoncé Song. Stay Current and knowledgeable.
SECRET 3| LEARNING 101: COMMITMENT
If you think celebrities reach “celeb status” and stop, think again. They are always learning. Either at being better at their craft or learning a new craft, they understand that knowing and doing more keeps them evolving into other parts of themselves. This other parts are what keep us engaged and interested. They commit to learning.
Elite athlete Serena Williams is a great example of this. With all her accolades in the tennis world, she decided she wanted to be a manicurist too. I know. Many people looked down on it. (Side bar, a lot of men and women build their wealth in this people-pampering field). Don’t knock it. She decided to do something she loved. She got certified as a manicurist and now, she has a line of nail polish in partnership with OPI that are a part of her wealth building way of life. Take a cue from Serena. Whatever it is that you like and want to learn, do it and don’t bother about what people would say about you. It just might be your millionaire idea. GO FOR IT.
There are many more secrets, but these were the top 3 I found consistent with the celebrities I got to work with. I hope you tap into these secrets for yourself. GOOD LUCK!

How to Get Publicity for Your Holistic Business
HOW TO GET PUBLICITY FOR YOUR HOLISTIC BUSINESS
One of the biggest hurdles holistic businesses face when trying to grow their business online is publicity. Publicity is a form of credibility that will help to position your holistic business as the go-to solution for a specific problem. It is also a way to bring you (the business owner) clout as you continue to market your business.
Publicity comes in many different forms. It is essential to not only showcase your publicity on your website, but to also be selective about the right publicity you entertain. When you have the right publicity in place it will help you standout online amongst other business owners.
No matter what form of publicity you have: advertising, public relations, and promotions, expect a gradual increase in your brand awareness. While some publicity is free and others might be paid, publicity is necessary when growing a holistic business online..
Here are a few good examples of the right publicity you should strive to receive as you grow you holistic business online:
Write for a Magazine:
Getting featured in a print or online magazine doesn't have to be difficult or time consuming. In fact, if you have done something noteworthy in your business (I believe having any kind of holistic business is incredibility noteworthy), it's important to let the media know. When the media takes notice of your work, there is a chance they will feature you in their publication.
Other magazine publicity includes showcasing your expertise in a magazine or on blog. The easiest way to get featured in a magazine or a blog is to contact the editor. Because many blog authors and magazine editors are bombarded with tons of emails each day, getting a response can be difficult, but never give up. Some magazines and blogs, such as Holistic Fashionista magazine and the Huffington Post, accept new writers regularly by merely submitting a sample of your work. If you are interested in sharing your expertise in Holistic Fashionista magazine, simply join The Club.
Host a Webisode TV Show:
Knowing someone will always be the easiest way to get free media attention, but don't worry. There are lots of other ways to get media attention that doesn't have to cost a pretty penny. After all, you got into business to make money, not to spend it all trying to get your holistic business off the ground.
Be in the right place at the right time--- or better yet, have it planned to be in the right place at the right time. If you know a television station is looking for a new story, why not be right in front of them when they are looking? This might include making phone calls (and leaving numerous messages, until you get that phone call returned), but it's worth it. If you want to be on television, the best way to do so, is to make those hard calls. If they happen to give you short notice, make a run for your travel agent and get on a flight. Tell them you were going to be there tomorrow anyway.
Another way to get featured on TV is to host your very own WebTV show on YouTube. If you didn't know, Lena Dunham from Girls started her career as a webisode before being picked up by HBO. The power of YouTube is undeniable. If you are the face of your holistic business and you're ready to increase your publicity, than video is definitely the way to go. If you are unsure as to how to start a YouTube webisode, consider joining HFTV, Holistic Fashionista Television available to our Club Members.
Start a Podcast or Radio Show:
Podcast is becoming a huge asset to many businesses online. In fact, with more and more embracing iTunes as their go to resource when they can't be behind their computer to gather information, wouldn't it be wise to host your very own podcast to grab the attention of your audience? I do.
Starting a podcast is an incredibly powerful form of publicity, and with a few inexpensive pieces of equipment, you can have a podcast up and running in literally a couple days. If you're considering starting your own podcast, be sure to have a marketing plan before you get started. There is nothing worse than spending time creating great content and lining up experts to interview only to have a nominal amount of people tune in to listen.
Starting a podcast to promote your holistic business is a great idea and an even better publicity strategy. Podcast is the new term for creating a web-based radio show and if you're looking for radio publicity, starting your own podcast is instant publicity.
If you're serious about growing your holistic business online, then there is no better time than right now to give your expertise the exposure it deserves. Whether you've got a website up and running or celebrating 10 years in business, gaining publicity for your business is a never-ending process. The more able you are to stay in the view of your target audience, the more people will learn of your business, what you offer, and when the time is right-- they just might become a die hard customer or lifetime fan. And that's great publicity!
